When submerged, the air in the chamber behaves according to Boyle's law, which states that a gas's pressure and volume are inversely proportional. This means that as the watch descends, and the water pressure builds, the air in the chamber becomes more compressed, allowing more water to fill the area overlaying the yellow depth scale. The depth gauge has been tried by high end brands before, but never in such a simple fashion at such a low price point.
